HOW TO SIZE FUEL PUMP FOR YOUR ENGINE H.P.

TYPICALLY AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE , FULL POWER , AN ENGINE REQUIRES 0.5 LBS. OF FUEL PER HORSEPOWER EVERY HOUR.

A GALLON OF GASOLINE WEIGHTS APPROXIMATELY 6 LBS.

THEREFORE A ENGINE RATED AT 400 H. P. WILL REQUIRE ABOUT 200 LBS. ( 33.3 GALLONS ) OF FUEL EVERY HOUR.

TO GET FUEL FLOW IN TO GALLONS PER MINUTE (GPM)

EXAMPLE ---- 400 H.P. ENGINE

400 HP. X .5 LBS FUEL = 200 LBS PER HOUR.
200 LBS PER HOUR -:- 6LBS( GALLON OF FUEL) =33.33 GALLONS PER HR.

33.33 GPH --:-- 60 MINUTES = .556 GALLONS PER MINUTE.
