Ok, so I won't be able to ward off the nitrous Jeeps much longer, so I'm getting ideas for the winter....
What I have...
'76 Jeep with a 383 SBC. I have no worries about spraying this motor (Callies crank, carillo rods, JE pistons, bla bla bla), but I'm just not a nitrous guy. I'm thinking about kits in the adj. 100-300HP range (just for sake of having too much), and thought about running a 150 shot.
Who likes what kit and why?
Button, throttle activated switch, or both? (already have a trans brake wired in, so I'm thinking throttle)
I also have... full MSD ignition, BG 220HR pump (yea I know, but that's what I had laying around) with -10AN from tank to filter, -10AN from filter to pump, then -8AN from pump to carb with -8AN bypass line.
What else?

nos big shot kit is a great kit, its easy to tune...i had both a button and throttle, i used the button to purge it through the motor though...

Do you happen to know if the kit can be jetted down to make less than 200HP?
Also, compression on this motor is around 10-10.5:1. Can I get away with pump gas?

yeah you can jet it down to anything you want, the kit just dont come with the jets...i ran 175 through mine all the time...73/82 jets...

you might be able to get away with pump gas but you would probably have to take alot of timing out at first and then move up from there after you check the plug after the pass...but if you mixxed it with race gas from the pump it would be good for sure...

When I was hitting mine with 175 I ran pump gas all the time. 11:1 with aluminum heads and ran about 30* total timing. Obviously the cylinder head chamber will have a lot to do with how much total timing it will take. Now I still use pump gas in my fuel cell but run C16 in a one gallon fuel cell, I put a mix of 110 in the fuel cell if I want to play around with the tune just to be safe though.

I think I'd mix it first just to be safe, or possibly always do so to be safe. We'll see how long it takes my funds to recoupe from this stupid transmission.

If you have the money boost it and tune it.

I thought about an ATI, but the motor is built for spray, and there isn't much room in a Jeep for just the motor, let alone an intercooler/etc. Not to mention, I have to deal with these headers (unless I pay for a custom set)

Then have someone who can do a correct tune for spray set it all up.
Too many people aroud here spray without setting the timming back, cause a friend did it, and 1 month later, boom no more motor. I've seen it happen time and time again.

Put the turbo in the rear of the Jeep.

nitrous is not something you just set and forget you have to keep an eye on your plugs being able to read a plug is key to using nitrous successfully

Not that easy. The headers are outside frame units. I'd have to snake the exhaust back into the inside of the frame, then deal with the narrow frame, my trans/fuel lines (2 of each) running down the frame rail, and my gas tank which was moved over further to the driver side so the fuel pump could be mounted on the passenger side. There isn't much room under there.

I agree. I'm more of a "safe than sorry" kinda guy for the most part.
