He got a Purple Heart during his first tour of duty - I'd be willing to bet that the injury was self inflicted.

yeah the problem with joining the military is that you take that oath to follow orders and what not. Not to mention that the military shouldn't be a place to go play guns in the woods. I say throw his ass in jail. He deserted and he also knew what he was in for potentially when he signed up.I don't want the troops where they are i didn't want them to go but the orders we given and you have to follow orders.

Right you are my man! Some of these tools sign up just for the benefits,
one of which is the privilege of going into battle for your country. You leave
your politics at the recruiter's office and do your duty, or you're a deserter,
PERIOD.

Nah. This guy has democrat wrote all over him.
Since he fled completely out of the country, he'd come back win as a democrat *cough*Clinton*cough*. Add on top of that he probably did get a purple heart through a self inflicted injury he's definitely Democrat *cough*kerry*cough*. If he just used his inside connections to ensure he didn't go to war but was stationed in the US. Then he'd be a Republican.

Your terrible grammar and inability to make a worthwhile statement screams, "I'M A STUPID REPUBLICAN!" **see: George W. Bush**

Last time I checked. Joining the military meant they would train you for WAR! If you don't want to fight then don't join the military.
I think he should be sent to Iraq. Fuck prison. Make him serve.

Imagine had he, instead of fleeing to Canada, fled to a southern state to help a Republican run for office. :bsjerk:

What does it say about the democrats when the person that they all call stupid, has beaten them in two elections, and continues to beat them on a daily basis?
And the deserter should be shot.

did you guys actually read that article? he was in 1 armored division, who spent 15 months in iraq on their first deployment there. they had over 160 soldiers killed in that time some of the worst during the war. all you guys bitch about him being a deserter but he served 15 months there, can you be that mad at him at not wanting to go back? how many on this forum have even been once? self inflicted purple heart? awards have to be written by someone else, unless your an officer then they'll usually write their own, but then it gets submitted through their commander. i dont care that he didnt go back frankly i dont blame anyone that doesnt want to go back. vini vidi vici!

At the age of 17 (maybe it was 18, I forget) I was sent my papers to go off to the Italian army for my mandatory 1 full year of service. Since I was in the States they couldn;t just come and pick me up like they do for Italian citizens living in country. We had a trip to Italy planned for that summer but my parents received paperwork saying that I would be picked up at the airport and brought to training as soon as I stepped off the airplane. How they found out about the trip I don't know. My parents canceled that trip.

It wasn't funny for me at the time. I did my mandatory 18 year old sign up for the draft here, but wasn't required to go off and train. When I saw the letters from Italy, I about shit.:roll:

I dont want to pay taxes either, but I do. You sign up for the army, you become army property for long ass time. It says right in the contract that you can die, no one tried to hide that from him.
