Maybe we can have some guidelines for listing stuff for sale. A good example would be you must include a price. Maybe have some others like location, some many post before posting, rules for bumping, etc. Maybe this has been discussed before, but I am kind of new here, but I think it would be a good idea.

agreed, a minimum post count would be nice.

Yeah a minimum post count and maybe a certain amount of time before you can post. Also like Rich said they should have a location as to where they are and a brief description not just what your selling. Otherwise this forum might just turn into a for sale site with people bumping their thread 3 times a day and others posting from arizona.

how about 1 post for all the items instead of 10 different post for 10 different items. that is what bothers me, not so much the new guys who put stuff for sale cause sometimes its a good deal but stop posting 100 different threads for individual parts in each one of them

In lieu of minimum post counts (which is still one of my faves), what if we required people to submit a verifiable address and phone number? That would keep the scammers out. That would allow our for sale section to be well stocked, too, while protecting members.

Yeah that would help keep more stuff on one page instead of it getting bumped to the 3rd page in less than a day. But its kinda hard when your selling like 30 different things and you cant fit them all in the thread title. Most people wont even bother to look unless the title has something in it their interested in.

Or we could have the for sale thread setup to where it has a different section for engine, transmission, suspension, etc.

if there wasnt so many threads then people will look at em all. but when they all get spammed up nobody will take the time to look...

Yeah they could've combined most of those threads thats why we need the club officials to put a sticky in the for sale section about that and if they dont read/abide by it they delete their posts and send them a pm warning on why they deleted it. If they dont listen then ban them.

or if they could put a time limit on posts in the garage sale section, i dont know if you could do that. but if you could only post once in 15mins it would probably persuede you into putting them into 1 post

I don't think there should be a post count minimum, the only restriction should be that they aren't commercial ads. Commercial ads from non sponsors should be deleted, everything else should be OK.

Multiple ads for different items in the same catagory should be common sense, we should post a sticky about that.

Just my opinions.

Good idea in theory, but how would you be able to verify an address and phone number?

I think people just should use common sense. This is a local board, so go pick up the crap in person. Scamming should never be an issue.

I am with John on this one. Maybe the Mods should just delete all but the first post of the multiple posters. When they ask the reason, they can be informed that they need to combine their For Sale items. Most of the MM posters are pretty good about combining items. It just seems some of the people from the Milan board filter over here, and think the same rules apply here...

If you have a bunch of items for sale, the title you can say 'Look Here - Multiple Items For Sale' and that could cover it......

I still don't like the idea of a minimum post count, but the verifiable phone, or address is a good idea.

I am a admin on the www.badmustangsclub.com and these are the rules we use. It's just a idea...

1. Your First Post Should Not Be A For Sale Ad ! Have 25 post's or more. The classified section is for regulars, not scammers.

2. Post your item, your price, and your location with your postal/ZIP code. I cannot stress this enough. It allows the potential buyers the ability to calculate their own shipping costs without having to bug the seller with "How much to 12345??" or "Can you tell me how much to A1B 2C3??" and that sort of nonsense.

3. If your posts do not conform to the above rule, you will get ONE reply from me or another mod / admin to correct your post. After that, it's deleted and the thread with it.

4. Do not bump your sale more than once a day, its not necessary. When I say bump, that includes ttt or any variation of it .

5. Your word is your bond here on this forum. If you say you have it, you'd better have it. If you say you'll pay for it, you'd better pay the seller. If you say you shipped it, you'd have better have it shipped with tracking information ready. The administrators and I will not tolerate trolls or deadbeat buyers or sellers.

6. Any and all posts are subject to be edited, deleted, or closed at anytime by the moderators or administrator at their discression.

7. These rules are not up for debate and are subject to be changed by, Admin's, or mods at anytime, so please check back often!!!

8. If your item does not sale after one month, please contact a mod of this forum and let them know so your item will remain active. Inactive ads will be closed after 1 month.

Good ideas on a nationally based forum/club.

I like including a zip code in your comment above, but without package dimensions and actual shipping weight, nobody can estimate their own shipping price. It is always up to the seller to provide that information IMO :D

As stated in other threads here on the topic, this is a local forum for the most part, I imagine most of the transactions here take place in person and very few are handled through the mail.

Any updates on this? Even if we could get some guidelines. How many times do you waste time on something asking a question that is common sense and should be included in the description, but is not. Then you don't ever get a response from the seller, because the only post they have on here is their for sale ones and there so busy whoring out whatever they are selling on forty other sites that they never get backed to you. Seems like we could change the name to MOTOWN CLASSIFIEDS, with all the new members that only post are for sale posts. You could probably click on all the sellers in the swap meet section and view all their posts and my guess would be over 70% of them have only posted in the for sale forums. Well, you can probably tell I recently had a bad experience with this, but still.......well my rant is over :swear: Oh yeah, what if for sale posts didn't count towards your post count? I know a few other forums are set up like that.
