Seriously. I know I can't be the only one who is really tired of hearing about neighbors who slipped and broke their neck, about the friend that got ran over while walking to his mail box, about not being able to find a six figure job when you can barely compose a sentence, how crappy Michigan is, etc, etc ...
I propose we create a new sub-forum named "Sad News" or "Bad News" and limit negative crap to that section.
Some of us are trying to be positive and live lives of victory, and I think avoiding bad news helps. Thanks.

Not to be a dick, but if that's how you feel, crawl into a box and lock yourself into it! Bad news is everywhere bro, on tv, in the paper, and even on the internet. Believe it or not, just like you can choose not to watch it on tv or read it in the news papers, you can choose not to read those topics on the internet and on MM as well! Alot of people use MM (the pub) to vent frustrations, and for some, it keeps them sane and from going totally ape-shit and snapping somone's neck! If you don't want to read something sad or depressing, just click that little "x" in the upper right hand corner of the window and move on!

I realize people want to vent, it just seems that it's all the time. And how can you skip the thread if you don't know what a downer it is until after clicking on it?

Close it and move on to the next one! Most of the time you can tell by the title, or if you leave your cursor on the title for a minute before actually opening it, it will give you a brief preview.....if you think it's gonna be sad, don't read it, it's really quite simple!

Theres just a lot of negative shit in general going on in the world, and worse Michigan. You can't just expect it to go somewhere where you can't read it, you have a choice to read it and let it affect your positive attitude.
I try to keep things as positive as possible too, but just learn to deal with negative things and realize theres some things beyond your control.

Is this a serious suggestion?
Sorry if I'm slow and sarcasm escapes me today...

Maybe it would be easier to require sad news threads to have an appropriate frowning or thumbsdown icon describing the thread. That would make it easy to skip over.

Does this work?

Yea - exactly - something that simple.

What's so hard about using the thread preview feature that this site has???? It would eliminate your need for a "sad news cause I'm too fucking lazy and sensitive to read something about people who are having a hard time with life" forum.

i don't think there should be a separate forum for this but I do agree half the pub is people wanting to spread their sadness onto others, there are a lot of people on this site and most of them I don't know so I really don't care how they are feeling, some random person telling me to keep my chin up and posting a dumb picture or a smilie isn't gonna do shit for me, just my .02

Sometimes people just like to have support. If the support of strangers didn't help there would be no AA or NA programs, rehab wouldn't exist, a lot of internet websites in general wouldn't exist including this one. I've met maybe 15 people from MM in person but that doesn't stop me from wanting to help them. You just don't get it. Maybe some people just want to better humanity.
