View Full Version : Pros and cons of minitubbing??

Thinking of just minitubbing the stang now while its apart before i paint it instead of using a bfh and all that jazz. Still has the 7.5 in it so i can have the rear shortened before i install it. Any suggestions or reasons not to minitub? It will be mostly a street car but will see occassional track rentals and what not. I just want to be able to run some steamrollers!!!:naughty1:

Pro-s more tire and better rim backspacing. Cons are cost.

Pros - Big tire , Cons -If you don't have the motor to need the tires your a poser and lots of guys run real fast without the tub

I did mine ony to use a big tire.. Turbo + 4 speed is a nasty combo to get to hook on the street..

thats what i'm thinking, some 325 dr's would look sick and hook on the street. I plan on either a nitroused 357 again or maybe a blowthru sc setup on a 306.:naughty1:

Pros - big tire

Cons - no back seat, most likely irreversible, being beat by a non mini tubbed car with people in the back seat, resale value.

Why can't you run a back seat? If its a small tub and you don't slam the rear of the car you should be able to doa lil re-working to the seat backs and still utalize a back seat.

I hope anyways..

You could on a hatch back but you will have to make new seat backs. There's a good build on turbomustangs of a 93 cobra doing just that.

Another con for a HB would be cutting your interior panels to fit the tub. I think it looks like poop.

Most people make seat deletes or cover the whole area with carpet.

I'd only do it with a track car, unless you do alot of street racing too.

Pros I think it looks hot as hell. Cons no back seat or trunk space!

you can still run a back seat with trimming and yo dont loose much trunk space about 3'' per side!

Look at my web site under instructional downloads and see what it takes to mini tub a car and what you'll loose or gain!

Mini-tubbed 79 capri. I run a 12" wheel with a 28x10.5 tire. Original rear seat was retained with no problems. Made mounting brackets for seat back. Plastic fit very nice and neat after trimming for tub. Car sits relatively low at ride height. Have no clearance issues between tire and wheel well/tub front or back.

The car has not been out since the summer of 2000. I used to run a 11.7 to1 c/r 294ci (.040 over 289) with iron world sr. heads and a tremec 5spd. Went 10.8-10.9 et's on motor thru mufflers @ 3000#. Nothing crazy just a nice running dependable motor. How that stock short block stayed together constantly spinning it to 8300 rpm I'll never know. Car was stk suspension except for HP motorsport sr. lowers, no mini-tubs. Then in late summer 2000 I got the bright idea to sell the drivetrain and set the car up for nmra hot street. What a huge F'ing mistake. Little did I know you had to be a rich MF'er to do this. So I've slowly been working on the car over the years to get it to where its at now. Everything on the car is new. There has also been a ton of fab work done to car since 2000. Car is now setup for a G force G-101 4spd and a 9.5 deck windsor. This setup will also be all motor just a touch bigger on the C.I. Mark
