team_southside's Outlaw Drag Radial Fox Mustang Build

In reply to all the requests for the progress pictures of the build of my mustang. The car is being purpose built for outlaw drag radial. It is a 25.5 chassis with the KTS racecars touch. It will be rolling on a completely custom fabbed ladder bar suspension and 9" rear end. This build would not have been possible without Dave Kelsey of KTS racecars. Dave and I have worked side by side on this thing the whole way though and I owe him great thanks for that. The car is really starting to take form now is turning out simply awesome and i can't wait to get it completed and get it back on the track. Any how here are the pics from the start of the build all the way to where the car is now.

First three shots are just after i tore the car down to a shell and put it on the chassis dollie to take it out to KTS.

next three shots are the prep work and weight removal from the body of the car. this part of the build was down, dirty and time consuming as hell. Not fun.

at one point the entire rear frame rails and floor were removed from the car to sand blast and prime them along with smooth the framerails out. and remove weight from them. took a total of 48lbs. of weight out of them between removal of stock suspension provisions, tabs and sandblasting. pics of that and the roots of the chassis. The ladder bar crossmember, and round tube, subframes. Also a shot of the first few bars of the cage. The dash bar blows through and is welded to the a-pillars.

custom built 9" housing. backbrace and tube braces still to be added. The ladder bar brackets were custom designed by Dave Kelsey, and were sent out to be laser cut.

rear wheel and tire mocked up. ride height will be only 1.5" higher than this. Tire size is 325/50/15 Mickey drag radial on a 12" wheel with 3.5 in. backspace.

initially it may be a nasty smallblock with nitrous, just until the big combo is complete which will be a built 5.4 4v. with a large frame turbocharger and water to air I/C the trans will be a TH-400 with both motors. the mod motor mockup has been done in the car already.

pullied it to 18psi. at the end of 2006 season to see how many passes it would last. lasted three passes and then this happened.

yea, i don't have that one any more because it wasn't setup for a tiny cube motor like what im going to run, but i am going to be running a PT-101 that is specd. out for my setup.

cage is painted, rear end housing and suspension parts are next, then engine bay body work and paint, then last but not least body work on the qtrs where the wheel wells were stretched and then paint on the whole shell.

I got the cage/floor primed and the cage painted charcoal metallic.As Nick mentioned, the engine is next then the qrt panels where they were streched.

thanks ryan, rob's work is 2nd to none for sure. It's nice to see this thing finally getting pretty again. Rear end and all suspension parts are painted and also turned out beautiful. I am assembling them outside of the car and will try to get some pics up of that stuff as well.

what's funny is you are on here heckling me and you are building a bullshit thrown together car and have no other responsibilities other than that and probably still need a lot more things to get that pile going than i do.
