Are they the same dimensionally as a housing out of an 86 t-bird? Or is the bird housing wider?

I dont think so, there are several different 8.8 housings. I know from experience because it took me 2 trys with moser before I finally got sick of changing them before I got the right axles from Ford Racing for my 01.

IIRC, the housings are the same, the Mustang has rear drums and the T-Bird has rear discs thus making the T-Bird a little wider (because of the disc brakes)
the Lincoln Mark VII 8.8 housings are wider (same as a Mustang SVO)
hope this helps

I hear the housings are the same width but the axles are longer outboard of the bearings. Thanks for the help guys.
