So here it is, instead of posting this in the forced induction section I decided to show the progress here. I had a thread in the forced induction area of my SI-trim upgraded vortech if you want to read up on it.
***I need a 45* 3" silicone coupler if anyone has one!
heres the box of piping, couplers and t-bolt clamps.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/avbcon12/Intercoolerinstall016.jpg
then with very little work I made brackets for the 31x12x3 intercooler. the upper angle iron sits on top of the front bumper shocks/ mounts and the bottom ones secure to the stock airdam mounts.
top mount:
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/avbcon12/Intercoolerinstall002.jpg
bottom mounts:
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/avbcon12/Intercoolerinstall004.jpg
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/avbcon12/Intercoolerinstall005.jpg
then the intercooler mounted, dont pay attention to the dirty ranger airdam:
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/avbcon12/Intercoolerinstall019.jpg
in the next pic the intercooler looks tilted but its not, its just an awkward picure. I have to see how low it is when the cars on the ground. it may look too low but its really not.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/avbcon12/Intercoolerinstall020.jpg
blower outlet piping, still need to figure out the angle to get the right coupler
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/avbcon12/Intercoolerinstall015.jpg
this is where the blow off valve is going to go:
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/avbcon12/Intercoolerinstall027.jpg
and now the drivers side piping, i flipped the intake around to make it work
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/avbcon12/Intercoolerinstall023.jpg
I extended the MAF harness to allow the MAF to be in the drivers fender
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/avbcon12/Intercoolerinstall022.jpg
Thats about it so far, I need to order or locate a few couplers and this thing should be on the road soon!
let me know what you think

IC looks a bit lower than the bumper, other than that looks good, keep us updated!
avbcon12
05-29-2008, 11:22 PM
as it sits right now it is about 2.5" below the bumper. I wanted to get maximum airflow without covering up a bunch of the radiator. once i get it on the ground ill have to see if its too low. the ranger airdam is pretty large and still sits about 2" off the ground at ride height so the IC would be about 4-5" off the ground.
thanks!

I don't want to sound like a dick but I think the intercooler would look better hidden. You will get plenty of air flow from the open air dam. I mounted mine flush with the bottom of the core support. It's hard to see if I have an intercooler or an aluminum radiator.
Nice build BTW.

I moved it up a bit, it was more or less testing the way it was in the picture. I got the car back on the ground and it was too low for comfort... its only about 1" below the core support now, not 2.5". just about flush with the bumper

is that a Cobra insert with the internals removed?
looks sweet, and id love some higher res pics for desktop purposes as well.
avbcon12
06-08-2008, 09:26 AM
Rick,
its actually a fiberglass version of the cobra insert. it never had any mount for the horse or anything behind it, just an open hole.
I dont even know what brand it was, I got it from someone on the corral.

I noticed you have a 90 as well, what size wheel and tire are you running up front? With my 17X8 Tri bar wheel, I run a 245 up front and it drives like stock, with my 17X9 Anny wheels with a 255 upfront, I catch the plastic on the extension.
just curious, your sits prefect and just looks sweet dude. +1 for a hott Fox.
avbcon12
06-08-2008, 02:09 PM
thanks Rick!
The wheels are OEM 95 cobra -R's (17x9) and tires are 245-45-17 fronts with 275-40-17 rears.
i have OEM 97 cobra wheels (17x8) with 255-40-17's all around but havent fitted them yet believe it or not so im not sure if they will hit the extension or not. the 245's on my 95-R's dont hit at all.

Im using an anderson PMS

06-17-2008, 08:58 PM
So how is that gonna work with you venting boost to the atmosphere? Dosent to BOV have to vent back into the inlet to keep the MAF happy? Or is there a way around it with the Anderson deal?

if you covert to blow thru instead of draw thru you can revent it or vent to atmosphere, thats what i did.

How are the intake temps?
avbcon12
06-18-2008, 03:11 PM
havent really had a chance to test it all that much but they are ~140* at idle but havent given it a good WOT run yet to see full load temps. so far im really happy with it.
for some reason, my throttle response is amazingly quick compared to what it was before... could the blow-thru MAF (new of course to my setup) cause this?

06-20-2008, 06:27 PM
here are a few better pics after I took it for a drive and to fill it up with new gas! ~10 month old gas doesnt do so well with boost! I cant believe how well it drives without really touching the tune, I do have to mess around with the part throttle and light load tables a bit to get it perfect but it starts right up with no surging like I was having last year with the aftercooler. THIS BLOW OFF VALVE IS LOUD!!!!

its just fingerprints from being handled... needs some Mothers aluminum polish to bring it back.
So how did the performance of the A/W vs the A/A come out. Lower IATS ?
avbcon12
07-01-2008, 08:25 PM
Im seeing much lower temps consistently. I see nothing more than 130* with no airflow. under boost I see temps more than 40* lower.
on the highway under light load on a 80* day I was seeing ~110* air temps
do you think I should get rid of the stock IAT in the #5 lower intake runner and use the MAF IAT sensor? are they calibrated the same? Im just thinking that the stock sensor is getting old for one thing and may not be very accurate and that its getting erally heatsoaked.
Overall its a much better setup for my driving habits than the aftercooler was. the aftercooler got heatsoaked very fast where as the intercooler doesnt.
Yeah I would relocate the IAT to the MAF. It will require playing with the tuneup a little bit but should work alot better. You will get better and more accurate readings as well.

07-01-2008, 09:30 PM
are the stock sensors in a fox the same as the built in sensors in the MAFs? meaning, If i just run the wires from the stock one to the MAF will it work?
avbcon12
07-07-2008, 04:50 PM
Sean, PMAS just sent me an email and they said that the stock sensor and the one in the MAF are different resistance and wouldnt work if i just hooked the stock wiring to the MAF sensor. Is this true? I figured it would be the same.

Thanks man!
Ive got most of the startup and idle tuning done, runs great with the new meter! Now I just have to get light load and WOT tables set.
I was having a hard time with bucking (heavily) during cruising and though it was my tune but after discovering my pinion angle was WAY off most of that is completely fixed now.

Cool man sounds good. The whole tuning thing is way over my head. Although Im sure its easier than it sounds. Anyways man big thumbs up for you. Submit that beast to MM&FF and 5.0 Mag. I bet you can get on the cover with that machine
No it is not true.
Here is the tempature to Resistance chart 92 vs 2000. The scales are identical. they are typed out differently but Identical.
Fox is top sn95 is lower. As far As I can tell all my data sources say the same thing.

avbcon12

i dont know if youll fit 18x9's in the back and i know you wont up front without some modification. my 17x9's with a 275-40 tire in the rear are rubbing slightly. its all in offset and tire size though.
it would look good though depending on the wheel
