Well ive noticed a larger interest in photography on this board lately, so i figured id make a photography thread were those interested could post their pics. Posters could ask for critique, and others could maybe give helpful tips! Hopefully this thread stays on track with minimal offtopic chit chat. Id like it to be about photography! I figured id make it in the media section since photo's are media related.....

Oh, i shoot with a 3.2MP sony cybershot point and shoot camera.... Im saving for a level entry dslr. Hoping for a d40x...or something similiar...who knows!

I just picked up a Canon SD850. I read through the manual once but think I need to reread it. The few pictures I tried to take this past weekend with manual settings looked horrible compared to the auto settings :emb:

DSLR's are fun. Great to learn on because you don't have to spend money developing a whole roll to get 3 or 4 keepers like with film.

Yes on the tripod. Told Violent J to use a tripod tonight or sit his camera on something stable. The lightning was 3 to 5 second exposures.

A tripod is one of your best investments. A good one also. When shooting landscape or still images. It is always best to take your shot with a slower shutter. Color saturation will be better and you end up with a shaper image.

Careful with the long shutter on a landscape if its breezy, trees will get soft.

Maybe thats just my view because I love shooting my 80-200 wide open @ f/2.8

Very shallow

3,4,6,7 from what I posted are all shot with that wide open. It's a great lens, so sharp @ 2.8

I've taken a shot of my lens cap with only the word "Nikon" in focus, everything else blurred, so depends on what your shooting, it can be extremely shallow.

If I really want a shallow DOF though I usually bust out the 50mm f/1.8, but the longer focal length of the 80-200 really separates the subject from the background too.

I always go out there and snap a few pics! I live about 5 mintues down Busha Hwy. Actually, i drove out there thinking i had my camera already in my car....and got there, and i didnt have it. So i drove home, and went back....

I may have to see if I have some old plugs laying around. Another local guy uses them for bodies of little bugs and dragonflys, they look really cool.

So I dont have a great camera like some of you... but i tried messing with my old assed kodak's manual settings to see if i could get anything even remotely cool looking... this is what i got..

I took a pic into the sun with a high shutter speed somthing like 1/2000
and the exposure way down.... The last pic is what it looked like at normal settings...

to the left of the bird there are two spots that look like they could be dust on the sensor. The sensor is your "film" and it can get dusty over time and you have to clean it.

If you look to the right of the driver side headlight in this pic you can see a big spot of dust and then there is some on the bottom of the bumper.

Too much HDR for my taste, but some nice shots in there still.

I cleaned my sensor off by just blowing on it like an old Nintendo game haha

lenses, well unless there is a smudge on it any dust on it wont really show up in a photo, but if you go to a local camera shop they should have lens cleaner solution/paper for it

Ya but you can only upload 100mb a month and...well thats not enough for photographers.

I'm asking for 10 bucks forever and any donations after that and you can have unlimited storage etc. When you upload photos you can send links to friends and family and show them the photos. Just little things. Never hurts to try it out.

It is a real sweet photo dirty! Did you burn in the clouds a little bit? I usually try to use the burn tool on clouds in photos, it makes them look better and taht sky looks great...hahaha

Sounds good to me, I get busy at times from school so I can't always compete in a weekly thing, but I should be able to get in for a bi-weekly or monthly "assignment." Bi-monthly seems a bit long though.

Another thing I've noticed from a few other forums is that these generally work better with topics that are quite broad and open to many interpretations.

For sure!! It would surely help each of us....well at least me with new styles/edits/etc.

My favorite edits in Photoshop are shadow/highlight and cntrl L (levels). Those and sometimes cntrl/shift B which 'fixes' the background. The first two are really what makes my picstures 'good' if you will. I am learning more all the time sometimes accidently, like the 'background' function.
A few tips, NEVER delete the originals or save over them. I've gone back through mine (as you can see here with the last bunch) and re-edited. I love this photography stuff.

If you guys want I can post pictures from the weddings I'm starting to shot. I shot my first last Saturday and doing another one this Saturday. I'm learning/training right now but for a different aspect for you guys?. :)

correct. the burnout mark was the "subject" the truck in the background was just supposed to be the backdrop, the truck is the vehicle that did the burnout. dunno, thought it was kinda cool.
