Picked up this all original '86 GT a few weeks ago. It's completely bone stock and unbastardized with 80K original miles. It has been garage kept and babied the past 22 years. Got it for $3700 and it was well worth it, it runs and drives like a brand new car, and the interior is mint.

I didn't like the color combination (esp the 2 tone), so I decided to go with GM's crimson red (good contrast with the orig color) and semi flat black on the trim. Pretty much all I had to do was sand the car down and fill in some chips.

The paint came out amazing, I couldn't be happier. This is it right out of the booth.

Let me know what you guys think. Future plans are just bolt ons that can easily be put back to stock. No race car plans for this one!

my dad has been in the industry for decades, so i got the hookup on paint, bodywork, paint jobs etc...
he keeps it within the family only though :)
total cost of all work and paint < $650 :)

car still needs a little bit of work, i will update as i progress.

needs 10 holes. Ponys look funky on a 4 eye. Other than that its awesome. I am working on an 86 Gt myself. Vortechs and welds should have been stock on all the 5.0s ;)

Cool. Let me know how much of a bitch it is to put on. I also see they make stencils to paint them on.

you cant tell in the pics, but we actually sprayed right over the old one. i was actually thinking about taping off the red, and spraying the black right back on top of it. the decal is actually gray, which would clash with the rest of my black trim. might as well give it a shot... ill let you know it works out for me.

also, thanks for the compliments guys

great job....but I love 2 tone GT's, didnt even know they made a 2 tone before 87. I would have kept it 2 tone, dont see them everyday.

but great looking car nonetheless.

i had a 86GT bright (jalapeno) red with Charcoal on the lower half, made washing the car really easy.

should have used SEM 39153 for all the trim and buckets. its as close to the original 86 charcoal that could be found in a can. but overall the car looks really good. the hood decal is easy, soap it up.

the Ponys look SWEET on the older cars. first thing i did when they came out. bought a used set for my 86. dont get me wrong though the 10 holes are the gold standard

thanks guys. i am proud to say that almost 2 months has gone by and i have not purchased any performance parts! i think i am cured of my addiction. all i did was change the oil!

although, in the near future i think i will be buying exhaust, a 3.73 and an eaton posi.
