What are you using for floor pans. Are you cutting good metal out of another car, or just fabbing up your own. Did you media blast the car at all?

Project looks good

Thanks. I'm using full length replacement pans from CJ Pony Parts. They are a full length pan, but i still have to fab the toe boards myself. I'm stripping the car myself.

I'm doing my 86 right now as well. The only spot that is bad on my car is the toe board to floor pan seam on the drivers side only. Click this link for some inspiration!!!

Looks like your doing an awesome job! The car i got my roof from was mint underneath and i thought about offering to buy the complete pan from him. The guy was a jerkoff though and i was tired of haggling with him over the roof. I paid alot for my new roof skin. It'll be worth it when it's finished.

WOW! That's cool. I kinda wished in a way i would have bought the whole shell that i cut my roof off of. The guy was a total tool and he charged me top dollar for the roof. The car had a REALLY nice floor pan in it. I just didn't wanna give him anymore of my money. He was a douche! Good luck with your project. Mine's coming along OK.

I have the passenger side floor 99.99% done. Just a couple small welds and that side will be finished. I also have most of the drivers side cut out and ready for the new sheetmetal. I installed 2" X 2" pieces of box tubing that run from the rocker panels over to the trans tunnel. I may install some tubing on the front and run it from the inner-rocker to the subframe connector, we'll see. I'll weld my roll bar to that instead of just a metal plate on the floorpan. I cut my main hoop to fit and tacked it in just to mock it up somewhat. Once i'm 100% sure that's ready i'll add the rear down tubes and finish weld that stuff. Subframe connectors will go on after that stuff is done.I'm figuring just a couple more weeks and it'll be a roller once again.

Worked on the car today. Got the drivers side floor cut out. I just need to remove the edge piece along the inner rocker. After that i'll start fabbing up the toe board piece that comes down and meets the floorboard. Basically it's the same repair as i did on the passenger side. After that is installed i'll start trimming the new pan for installation. Pic's will be posted soon.

I did a little more work on the car tonight. I primered the firewall where the a/c stuff used to come through. It looks pretty good from where i welded it up and bondo'd it, but i can see it still needs some more sanding- nothing major though. I also wire- wheeled and POR- 15'd a few small areas that had some rust on it. I gotta get some sheet metal so i can make up my inner fender aprons. Then i can start fitting those. I'm hoping to have the car back on the ground rolling by the end of next week.

black88coupe
07-14-2009, 12:50 AM
Kicked butt on the stang tonight. In three hours time i fabbed and installed the last patch panel for the dr. side front framerail in the strut tower area. Put a little lightweight filler on it and sanded it down to blend it in somewhat. Also POR-15'd the front framerails. Once the paint dries the front suspension can start going back on. I still have to install the c-clip eliminators and POR-15 the housing. This thing will be a roller again in about another week. WOO-HOO!

I worked on the car again tonight. I discovered i have a small problem with my coil-over setup. There is a cap on top of the Strange strut i'm using where the shaft comes out. It won't allow the UPR sleeve i'm using to slide all the way down. I think i can just remove the cap and i'll be OK. Gotta find out for sure though first. I'm calling UPR tomorrow. I put a set of old stock struts i had lying around on the car just so i could mock up the front suspension. I got the K member mounted and all the suspension stuff put on tonight. Just have to get some wheel bearings and i can mount my discs and front wheels. One or two VERY minor things and the front will be done for now. Then it's on to installing the C-clips and rear axles. After that it is officially a roller again!

Got underneath my car today and degreased and wire wheeled the rear half. Welded up my upper and lower torque boxes good and solid. I had them done awhile back but it was a bit of a rush job and they did them with the control arms still on the car. With the rear axle out this was a perfect oppurtunity to get in there and really finish them off the way i wanted them done. I also discovered and welded up one small crack that was forming in the pass. side lower torque box. I also installed the rear mounting plates for my Steeda subframe connectors. That should also help the lower torque boxes as they help to tie everything together in that area. I had to cut out one small rusted patch in the spare tire well and replace it with fresh metal. I POR-15'd all the areas that had rust. Once that dries i'll mist coat it with some undercoating. That should take care of any and all rust issues with the rear of the car. Whew, what a busy day! I'll post some pic's soon.

Went on TurboForums and found a guy in Shelby TWP. selling these for $30.00. As luck would have it we had a wedding last night about 5 miles from his house. We got a room for the night and I picked them up this morning. Hopefully this is the last piece to the turbo puzzle. I think I finally have everything for my turbo kit.

Here is a mount I made for my Bosch "044" fuel pump. I made this for a couple bucks.
