What do you guys use for boost control? Is it just the wastegate, or do you actually run a boost controller?

On your Mazda?
If so, its more then likely controlled by the ECU and a PWM driven solenoid somewhere. You'd have to check into that, then you can probably find a way to modify the signal to the gate.
Greddy or Apexi make a boost controller that will do just about anything you ask. If the car is pretty stock though, you can get a lot, but only so much. These units cost a few bucks, but really offer a lot of control. Staged boost, or allowing you to program various ramp rates. There is one that is pretty popular that I didn't mention, but I can't remember the name. I'll post up when the long term kicks back in....

I just use the wastegate for now. I'm planning on adding a boost controller on the wastegate in the future. If your looking for an electronic boost controller check this out.
