View Full Version : My 2000 Camaro Racecar build

Im bored at work, so I figured I'd make a project thread for my car. While its nothing impressive compared to 3/4 of the cars on this site, its my baby, and for the short time that I've had it, and with being a full time 19 year old college student, Im having FUN with the car! I got into going fast the day my dad and I unloaded our 72 Camaro drag car project. That car is my first love, and I'll never get rid of it. But while its on hold awaiting the chassis work, I picked up my 2000 Camaro to toy around with on the street. Like I said, its nothing impressive for now, and won't be for a while...but Im gonna play the Cam only game for now, because thats what my budget will allow. I'd like to make the top 10 Cam Only list, and see how fast I can go before something cool gets built. I bought the car stone stock in July of 2007. I had the car a good 4.5 hours before I bought a buddies used SLP loudmouth catback, and tossed it on. A week later came a SLP lid, thanks for helping with the install Trigger. With this setup, the car went consistant 13.20s @ 107. Not bad for a exhaust/lid only 2.73 geared Auto.

Stone stock, the hour I bought the car.

Last winter, this is what I have managed to do with the motor.

Engine wise:
Stock bottom end
241 heads
PRC springs
Chrome molly 7.4 pushrods
MS4 cam
LS6 oil pump
LS6 intake
Professional Products fuel rails
Ported TB
Pacesetter longtube headers
3" Dynomax bullet mufflers
MSD wires TR55 plugs

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f398/kaciphillippi/IMG_3031.jpg

That quickly broke my bank, and I didn't have the money to gear the car, get a converter, or tune it..so I just cruised it around on nice days. With almost 100k on the clock, the stock 4l60e I had, started to give out. I decided to sell the VIG4400 stall I had purchased, and go with a A3 swap. I have just about everything I need for the trans swap to date, except for the converter.

Trans combo:
TH350 Trans
TCI Manual Reverse VB
Derale Pan
UMI TH350 LS1 Crossmember
TCI SFI LS1/Th350 Flexplate
ARP Flexplate Bolts
ARP Torque Converter Bolts
B&M Carbon Composite-x Shifter
Ultimate Converter Concepts 5100 stall

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f398/kaciphillippi/1-52.jpg

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f398/kaciphillippi/1motherfucker.jpg

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f398/kaciphillippi/4-11.jpg

The last thing to tackle this winter, before its ready to make passes in the spring is the Rear End, and Suspension. I do not have the money to spend on a 12 bolt, or a 9" so I have to work with what I have, and hope the 10 bolt lives for a few minutes.

This is my rear-end/suspension setup:
PTP 4.10 Gears
Richmond Complete Installation Kit
UMI rod-end adjustable lower control arms
Comp Engineering 3way adjustable drag shocks
UMI Adjustable panhard bar
And the last three pieces to the puzzel, a BMR Adjustable torque arm, SFCs, and a 10pt chrome molly roll cage, that I still have to purchase.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f398/kaciphillippi/IMG_0432.jpg

Weight reduction is going to play an importaint factor if I want this turd to go 10s.

So far I have:
VFN Lift-Off hood
Back seats out
Front seats out
Kirky Drag Seat (Still have to purchase here asap)
Center Council out
15x10 prostar rears
15x3.5 Greg Weld fronts
Front Sway Bar removed
Wipers/Cowl/Wiper motor removed
A.I.R. Pump removed
AC/PS delete

I have to give a big thanks to my good buddy Trigger on here. He has helped me out countless times, weather it be me buying all his old parts for dirty good deals, or just him lending a hand turning the wrenchs on this car, I owe him a big thanks. Also to my boss at the local speed shop I work for. Without his help on parts, the car wouldn't be where its at today, in just over a year of owning it. And last but not least, my dad. The one who first got me into this hobby, and teaching me everything I know, and helping me with the car all hours into the night!!

And here is the car today.

New shifter is in. Now I need to figure out this Neutral Safety bullshit so it starts. I know there is a write up somewhere on LS1tech about the wiring changes for a th350 swap.

They are fine. My car was noisey though between the torque arm, lcas, and gutted interior. The 9" was a little loud too.

Reiko, his car is truly a cam only car. Stock unported heads, ls6 intake, stock piston/rod/crank/block w/ ms4. I beleive he still has p/s on his car even.

I've decided against the Elbow and Nick Williams 92mm TB setup. Instead I decided to try a 4500 style TB setup. I was set with going with a brand new Accufab, but came across a killer deal on this setup, from a guy on LS1tech, who went bigger. Should be here and on soon!

I'm having some issues getting my TH400 UCC Converter to seat on the pump of my transmission, but it seems to seat fine on Trigger's TH400..and his Yank seems to seat on my trans fine..so I think I'm going to have to end up using this converter.
