View Full Version : 4.6 sohc superchargers

I'm new to Mod engines, and I am interested in boosting my 01 GT. I've been looking around (ebay, craigslist) and have seen a lot of 03-04 dohc blowers, and some new 3v superchargers as well. Some are for the 5.4 f150s. Are the lower intakes totally different on the 5.4 from the 4.6? Or the intake ports from dohc to sohc? It would be nice if some of these parts were compatable with each other.
Lower intakes on the 5.4 and 4.6 4v and 3v engines are totally different then the 2v 4.6 motors. I like the vortech kits. they come with a really nice blower bracket.

To do the conversion for a 03/04 blower you need the new heads... I'll stop there just go for a vortech kit made for your year GT

Go all the way and go DOHC!

there is nothing wrong with the 2v, get a centri blower (vortech, paxton, procharger) and have at it man.

Yeah I've thought about swapping engines all together. But like I said I dont know shit about them. Is the 5.4 to the 4.6 what a 351 is to a 302, like just a taller deck? Dohc blocks the same as sohc? I've been told to get 315 to the tires is good for a N/A SOHC 4.6, What kind of numbers would be expected after adding a cent. blower? I really have no plans on being the fastest guy in town so I dont want to push it too hard, just to be a little more respectable. I would like to have it run mid 12s and that would be fine with me.

315rwhp NA in a SOHC Is a RACE MOTOR and Expensive.
Yes, the 4.6 to 5.4 is just like the 302 to 351 just more expensive.
Best bang for the Buck would be a Marauder/Mark 8 motor, they are cheap these Days. Swap out the intake and put a blower on it.
Then Theres always the 5.4 swap, but where do you stop...

And why should there be? the 4v head kills the 2v head.

Its not So Much an analogy, its what my car actually put down at 2 different shops.
Well a Novi 2000 efficient boost range is what 15-25psi?
where as a Vortech is 6-12psi?
Im sure the novi was pushing more than my vortechs measly 13psi

Mark 8 and pre 03 Cobra shortblock are pretty much the same except for the facxt that the Cobra has an 8 bolt Forged Crank and the mark has a 6 Bolt Cast Crank. (you arent going to break either crank so it really dont matter)
only 03+Cobra shortblock are Forged.
Im not a Fan of the 03 Roots Blower, they are good to what 500hp before they really start to kill the engine with HOT Air.
If It were Me and I had to do it all over again Id go 4v with a Turbo.
I already had a Blower So all i had to do was get a new Bracket for the vortech and Cobra discharge tube.

It is misleading though because a 4V will do more with a Vortech V2 blower than the 2V motor can... there are many ways to skin a cat... some ways don't work so hot. Either way the mustang was an 02 or 03 GT... an 05+ GT would have been a 3V

I had bought a couple of them at one point, I Paid $300 each.

As for the 99+ Crowd a Marauder motor or aviator would be the way to go for simplicity.

When you start to build a modular and price out the differences of the 2v,3v,4v when you break it down the price difference really is not that much.
Its like spending 30,000 on a 30 foot boat when you can snag a 50 foot for 35,000  Not everyone needs 1,000 HP, but why not have the option to support it :893nana:

Trickflow showed a new 2 valve head at sema and it is said to flow 240/185 unported, it will also feature removable cam towers that can be replaced should one gets smoked.
Anyone questioning the power limits of a 2v needs to look up some information on Modular Powerhouse. They have several 2 valves into 900+ rwhp and even a couple 1000+.

In fact, the high hp 03-04 Cobra crowd (700+) are still trying to figure out how the 2V cars can make significantly more power than the 4V cars using the same blower no matter how much psi you throw at them.
There seems to be a peak of about 800hp using a twin screw and 03-04 Cobra heads. Yet the 2V guys are making well into the 900's......and I think over 1000 on a couple cars. Blower only in all scenario's (no nitrous).

His goal is a mid / low 12 second daily driver.
The fastest, easiest, cheapest and reliable way to reach that goal would but to buy a blower. 10-12 lbs on a P.I. 2V and he should be where he wants for probably under 3k.
Although i agree with the 4V comments, as i have one. He doesnt need one to reach his goal.
Huh ? We have had a 4v make 615rwhp through a 4r70w at 12 psi. I have never seen a 2v even get close to the make juice. Granted it was a turbo motor but no way. If the 4v motors are not making power with the KB blower or similar roots blowers it is becuase the cams and the blower are not working together very well.

I agree but I still don't think you are seeing what I am saying here. Practically every combo out there has been tried by the 03-04 Cobra crowd. All sorts of built engine/heads/cams combo's and NOTHING has achieved much more than 800 to the tires with a positive displacement blower.......and only a handful of people have even seen 800. However there are quite a few 2V cars that have seen well over 800 with a PD blower.......and all the way over 1000 to the tires.
Seems like if you want to make huge power with a 4V.......a turbo is the way to fly. However it sure does take a lot of work to get a turbo car to ET.

On most of today's turbo's lag is a thing of the past. But to each his own. SC are a parasite on the motor. Nothing wrong with them its a personnel choice.
Freedom of choice, god love us!

Alot, I get depressed some times when I think about how much I have in the car then I drink alot. J/k Not quite sure the 2.6 blower does not come as a kit or at least didnt when my car was being done. I think it was close to 7k with the blower and all other supporting mods. Lidio did it. Its not cheap but looks factory.

Hey man, your car is cool. For stock heads and stroke that's good honest power. Somebody always has more power. I love the KB for what it is. And it's damn pretty too!

It does look like some nice stuff. I am sure that lower intake isn't cheap and the intercooler alone will run you $700+
