Too spendy for my blood lol. I like the round Abus. They're like the AK47s of fishing reels lol. This is an old Abu 5600AB. My uncle gave it to me like 15 years ago. I tore it down, removed the stupid anti-backlash mechanism, and cleaned up the peanut butter grease Abu used and now I'm waiting on parts. I got a new worm gear with dual ABEC7 bearings, ceramic pawl, new idler gear with an ABEC7 bearing, carbontex drag washers, new ABEC7 spool bearings, and a power handle. The reel had only 3 bearings in it from the factory, 2 on the spool and the anti-reverse, nothing on the worm gear. The parts only ran me about $50, not bad at all. I also got a jar of Cals drag grease and a bottle of Lucas reel oil. Can't wait to get it on the water.
All done, this baby is smooooooth.

Here's what I did. Swapped the ABEC3 factory spool bearings to ABEC7 ceramics. Swapped factory snap-in level-wind idler gear for an idler with an ABEC7 ceramic bearing. Removed the stock level-wind gear and bushings for a new one with dual stainless ABEC5 bearings. Felt drag washers were exchanged for carbon fiber washers. Factory 5.3:1 gears swapped to 6.3:1. Removed factory crank for an Abu Garcia Power Handle. Lastly, I swapped the factory 2-puck brake system for a 6-puck. It free spools like a mad man, perfect for drifting baits to hungry steelhead. Now it sits atop a 9'6" Okuma SST medium/light drift rod.
Grabbed this earlier in the week on my work to work. Dude was cruising in his fiddy along the city airport fence. Had to grab a pic. Guy is my hero!

I think I could put the Mustang inside the HellCat! I don’t have both in the garage together that often, but when they are you get a good perspective of the difference in size.
