I think these numbers are skewed
I think a bunch of the morning snow melted, then it snowed more. But yea, no way I got 7 or 8 inches.

I think we got about 6" in clarkston... first few deff melted a bit and it was very wet heavy snow.
didn't really stick down here till after lunch
Calmly waiting for ice-mageddon today.

Hey, any excuse for me to stay home and not sit in the hell hole that Cole is, I am glad for.
While I was mildly amused that the AMS note went out at 9:30, after when most people would be in for the day, I was glad to see they are basically saying if you're hybrid keep your ass off campus today and tomorrow.
I try to split my time, so I typically spend Tuesdays in Sloan, Wednesdays in Cole, and Thursdays in PPO North, since they are beginning builds for the vehicle team I support.
Of the 3 buildings, I actually like Sloan the best. Not for the amenities, but I am over in the BET area on the 1st floor, and it's just more quiet, there's more space. It seems more relaxed, less busy and "corporate" than Cole.
I absolutely hate, and always have hated, Cole/VEC. Cole is 1 step above the Ren Cen for me (which I absolutely cannot stand working from)
Sleeted here for about 5-10 mins, but it's snowing pretty solidly now. Maybe that means my area will miss the ice and just get snow instead.
rain here still
It's sleeting here pretty decently. Frozen enough on the windows at my house that I can't see shit out of them. 100% covered.
Milan has a good amount of ice. I lost a large tree limb
in the front yard just now & It is now thundering!
Just rain down here. My yard is mostly standing water with grass poking thru in a few spots. 34* right now so it might get slick by the time I leave for work.
I never realized how many other people on here I may work with, or at least be in some of the same buildings
So who else lost power?
Me, I've been on generator for four hours. I'm on municipal power though. If the wind kicks up it's going to get bad out there.
Power flickered at my house for a sec...
I'm in Consumers Electic land and there are about 200,000 out , pretty much everything south of I94.
I guess I'll be getting a really good workout with the chainsaw!

My folks are without power in Milan just north of the dragway. My Grandpa just called asking for my generator because he's not sure when he'll have power back. My parents have a generac system so they're surviving without much issue.
Driving through Grosse Pointe last night and there are still entire blocks without power. It is pretty ugly having no power when the temps are this cold. Looking at the outage map, it is probably going to be Monday before everyone gets power back - According to DTE at least. All those individual lines take a LONG time to repair.
Last time we had outages like this, I was living in Pontiac, and the power was out for almost two weeks. It was crazy.

I really gotta get off my ass and figure out why my basically new dual fuel generator won't fire. I really don't want to run gas through it, and it won't fire up on Propane now. My guess is something went bad in the secondary regulator.
We luckily kept power, but being on a well I would have no water or anything.
I hear you on that procrastination. Mine was in may basement flood a couple summers ago and I still don't have it back together. I did buy a new carb for it though! When we had the ice storm, all I could think is that we would lose power and I would be getting "The Look" from my wife.

DTE employees making some overtime this weekend!
All it took was one time for my parents to have to empty their frig and freezer when they lost power when they were on vacation for 2 weeks. So once they got their new place all done the way they wanted they made the investment for the stand by generator. Things quiet as heck too. It does a "maintenance" start and idle every so often, the central air unit is louder than the generator.
I thought about it, but opted for a large 10kw portable. Reason being, the maintenance and complexity of the whole house, plus I am only on a 120 gallon propane tank and I was afraid it'd really just burn through that thing quickly. The portable I have required no permits and was much cheaper overall.
If I were on natural gas, I probably would have leaned towards a whole house generator.
The natural gas stand by units are just so much money... $4000-$5000 for just the unit, then the switch panel. My gas powered unit I back feed to the house was like $300 used and will power the water well, furnace, fridges, wifi and a computer and TV easily. I normally have plenty of fuel in the barn, so unless we need to run for several weeks we are ok. Only kicker would be if I'm out of town, the wife can't set it up.
Those are the reasons I have a large portable with a direct back-feed to my fuse panel.
been using this set up for 23 years.

For about $3500 you can get a natural gas/propane 10kw generator with a 200a smart automatic transfer switch (smart meaning it can tell your AC unit to turn off if frequency drops). It's kind of a bargain.
I have a bunch of generators. I mostly use my 7kw inverter generator these days. It's big enough to run the whole house (all electric) as long as no two big things are running at the same time (range and water heater for example). I recommend an ATS so you can go back to utility power as soon as you want instead of loading up your generator... regardless of whether you have a portable or standby generator. A non-service-rated 200a ATS is about $600. They also prevent stupid from happening.
$350 used generator
$80 25’ extension cord
$20 power inlet box
$90 romax
$25 circuit breaker
$67 circuit breaker lockout, physically can’t have generator back feed breaker and main breaker engaged at same time MUST HAVE
Runs the entire house for 14 hours on 5 gallons of gas
