The right to keep and bear arms IS important to all of us. But that is the second half of the amendment. The FIRST half declares that "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state..." The framers of the Second Amendment were speaking in terms of a musket. Please also pay attention to the "well regulated" part of the statement. Yes, the militia was comprised of volunteers. Farmers, merchants, craftsman. They met periodically and drilled and practiced. There was ORDER.
We, as a society don't turn our kids loose with the keys to the car. The state does not automatically issue a driver's license. I do not feel that we should turn anyone and everyone loose with concealed weapons. Even operating a horse and buggy in the same era required some training.
That's my opinion.
