Hi guys, so we're in the process of selling everything at my 92 year old grandfather's house and I need a little help or direction.
Anyone have an idea of what to do with machinist tools? All the stuff is older, but good quality.
He was a lathe hand for 50+ years so it's all sorts of stuff in that line. There's mics, bore gages cutting tools etc.
Any idea on where to market it or how to price this kind of stuff?
Any help would be appreciated.
Can you post some pics? I know there are some machinists or former machinists on here.
depending size of lot, craigslist, ebay or local auction house. Post some pics with some brands and we can give you some more advice.
As others have said, take some good photos & document models
numbers & data. Finding the "target audience" is key. A "Machinist tools"
auction maybe your best bet.
Did you try Moneypit? He seems to be the resident pro on that kind of thing.

I would separate the tools from the antiques.
They are two different circles of value & shoppers.
That old console stereo is the BOOBS!
As far as the tools, it's all Mitutoyo and Starrett. Interapid indicator. Top notch stuff. Definitely not worthless.

I've always seen machinist stuff sit at garage and estate sales, I think it's a harder sell since the average person can't use a lot of it and most machinists already have their own. If you've got the time you'd probably get the most on eBay.

Ok I've got everyone noted and I'll work on the prices this evening and tomorrow.
I do have interest in the lot as a whole though just so you all are aware. If that doesn't pan out I'll move everything to the garage sale section and price it there.
