89 2.3t what are my options for an automatic trans?
Specific info is needed, c4 from a pinto wagon- I assume any year with 2.3.
But what else? c3.
It seems this question is hard to get solid answers.

Didn’t the turbo coupes come with an A4LD? Unless you’re looking for more of a “race” trans.
I honestly haven’t researched, but yes seems they did. Although they do seem notoriously weak.
I am looking for any possible options, preferably not computer controlled or at least easily controlled.
Not a “performance” application.
Seems to be a lot of info on this site

Was finally able to have an hour to search a little deeper, just trying to not make a mistake in “thinking” it was right. I appreciate it guys, any info /guidance is welcome:)
Well do you want/need overdrive? If yes there aren’t a whole lot of “bolt in” options when it comes to automatics especially non electronic versions.
No, overdrive is unnecessary. Could be handy for my purpose if I come across one but not necessary, especially if they are hard to find.
Anything can be converted to fit a 2.3.... but guessing the costs would be prohibited for you.
As far as bolt up factory automatics... C-3/C-4/A4LD were the three that ford used.... I recall working on lots of turbo 4cly mustangs back in the day... some were mildly impressive for their time.
With above mentioned, some were behind multiple engines with obviously different bell housings except the a4ld I assume. Can bell housing be swapped on the 6&8 ? Is the bell off the t9 usable on any auto swaps?
I don’t believe Ford offered a lockup converter for the C4 so using that trans for any highway driving will be a lot less efficient than using the A4LD trans.
