Default It's that time - SALMON FISHING IN THE RIVERS

I was up last weekend and there were a few Salmon in the Pere Marquette and a few at the weir off the manistee. I guess tippy dam has been slow also.

However, these cold nights should bring more salmon into the rivers. So I'm heading up for a day trip on Saturday to fish the Pere Marquette. I still think it is a little early, maybe a week or two off before the big run... (enough fish you can walk across the river)

Anyone else been out Salmon fishing?

It's annoying, you cast up stream, let the current take it down, then reel it in. In that time, you've seen 5 jump completely out of the water and 2 have actually swam INTO your legs while you are wading in the river.

Sometimes I just want to just take my net and just hold it in the river, they will swim into it.

yup. Your literally waiting for the hook to accidentally flow into a salmon's mouth. Ive had the best luck fishing off piers in august, they still have an apetite then.

    really? does anyone fish there?

It will be a few weeks before the rivers down here cool off to trigger the run.

I was up last week and there are few in the river, but I saw 4 swimming around the marina (never saw that before).
Hopefully these cooler nights will bring them into the river.

What we really need is a COLD rain.
