    Default Wheel/tire suggestions for a 68 coronet R/T?

My cousin has a 68 Coronet R/T thats been an ongoing project. he bought the car rolling steelies with 6" wide 1980s montgomery ward polyglass tires. We've had a blast doing 3rd gear burnouts with those, but its time to move on.

Here's what the car looks like now, although in person the color looks more like the car pictured below

he wants the car to look something more like this when its done:

He is considering the factory rally wheels like the car above, but he is also looking for other ideas too. He does not want an oversized wheel at all, as much as i have tried to talk him into some 17s/18s... he wont. We also need help on the tire sizes like the car above would have... cant find documentation for this anywhere. I believe he wants to go a little bit bigger (wider) than stock on the rear tires.

    Thanks!

should have mentioned he is also considering pro-stars but with street tires rather than a drag pack.

If he doesn't want to go bigger than stock sizes, I personally think the wheels in those last 2 pics will look best.

his main concern is having some sidewall.

Do you know how tall the factory tires on that were? A lot of muscle cars I'm pretty sure can take a 27-28" tire, and on a 17" wheel a 28" tire has plenty of sidewall.

no i dont, but i do know he can fit a pretty big tire under there. the problem is finding an example and the dimensions to go with it.

Cragars were going to be my other suggestion. They look good on just about anything of that vintage.

I can get a pic of the sidewall of a 28" tire for a 17" wheel if it helps.
