    Default Ford 8.8 Strength

...Hey Guys....My question is how reliable can a Ford 8.8 in a fox body be made. I have gotten a few different opinions (some say it can be made real close to bullet proof, others say dont waste the money and go to a 9"er). Will be used in a car approx 900-1000hp on spray

For 1000hp the 8.8 will work all day long. 33 spline axles and a spool is all you will need. A cover/girdle would be nice also.

Wouldn't hurt to have the tubes welded and some supports welded between the pig ears and axle tubes.

X2 just some of the basic support work and your good to go. The gear has to be set up right (backlash) or that will be your weak link. Think they need to be set up a bit tighter to make them live

Depends if you are starting from scratch....if you have 1000 now you will probably have 1250 then 1500..., build a nice nine and be done forever.

8.8 = bullet proof? Not hardly.

That said, I have a MW 8.8 with all the tricks.

x2. There are multiple cars that I know of going mid 7s or quicker with the 8.8 still. Pretty much what I'd call bullet proof. In the mid 7s though, I would step up to a 9" the first time the 8.8 fails.
