Finally spent some time getting acquainted with the new add-on board for the Raspberry Pi last night. 24-bit/192KHz lossless audio sounds pretty damn good! The albums are huge, usually 2GB to 3GB in size. For comparison purposes, a redbook CD at 16-bit/44KHz encoded in the FLAC format is between 300MB and 600MB. The add-on board also has a pair of microphones, I'm hoping somebody writes some real-time analyzer software so I can EQ in the digital domain and have the Pi compensate for anomalies in room response. This setup is pretty nifty since I can control it through my Nexus 4, Nexus 7, or web browser. Internet radio, subscription services, and locally stored files all play nicely. Now I just need to build/buy a case to put it all in.

    Phone question for you....

    Lg g3 / HTC m8 / Moto X....pick one. I know you loved the X...still do?

Don't really do anything with the phone other than stream music, text, and read shit. Its for the wife and I think she would hate the size of the g3 and m8

Yeah but then I'm dealing with a bigger size phone again...

Shes grandfathered into unlimited data via Verizon but won't let me buy a phone outright.

Hmmm. In that case I'd say the M8 would be a good option.

Tin, should I bother with a soundbar? My living room setup is very clean (floating TV, tucked wires, etc, and I don't really want to wall mount satellites around the room. I can drop a soundbar under the TV and hide the sub behind the couch. I've never heard a soundbar outside of a store so I don't really know of they are worth a shit in a real room. Thoughts?

A soundbar gives you a narrow field of sound. You move your head away from center, then all of a sudden it sounds like a mono signal. Have you thought about in-wall speakers? Lots of nice ones out there.

I did, but I just don't feel like doing all the wall fishing. The real theater will be in the basement. I just want better than TV sound in the living room. The narrow field would suck as we have a couch off to the side of the room. I also didn't really want to run a receiver.
