    Default 2012 SRT8 Grand Cherokee tune/fuel question

I have a question regarding the engine program on the new 2012 SRT8 Grand Cherokee. Has any one developed a tune to retard the ignition to allow for use of mid-grade or regular low octane fuel to be used in it? Dose this engine management configuration compensate for the low octane one it's own via knock sensors etc. Can you get away with running at a minimum mid-grade for daily use?

    Thanks

Pay $65000 for an ultra high performance vehicle.

Can't afford 20 cents more for premium gas.

My 2 cents were not even related to original post. I thought I read SRT8 300

    Then buy a $16,000 39mpg Focus. Don't buy a 500hp AWD 6.4 liter SUV for $65000.

So you should decide how to spend his money? Some of the most wealthy people I know also happen to be the cheapest I know. The guy asked about a tune and you have to give him shit about his purchase seems shitty to me.

Well yeah... That might make sense if we weren't talking about a $65,000 high performance vehicle.

Premium is typically .20 more per gallon. So running 87 saves you what... $4 per fill up? If you fill up once per week you wouldn't even cover the cost if the tune with your "savings".

If fuel costs are your concern... You buy the very nice respectable 285hp Pentastar V6 and get 25mpg.

The concept of paying $65000 for a high performance car, then paying more money to detune it and make it slower... To save $4 a week is... well... It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

And I'm not giving him shit about his purchase... I think the SRT8s are badass. I congratulate and celebrate that purchase. I just question his plans... Hopefully I can talk him out of what is, to me, a mistake
