Wow thought the F-450 would destroy the RAM...

I marvel at both the performance and cost of trucks these days. Especially the heavy duty trucks.

The RAM product line has become a contender across the board for sure.

I just bought a 2010 F450 after looking at the 2013 Ram 3500 dually with the Aisin. The Ram was a nicer truck, but I saved about $15-18k by buying a used truck. One thing I learned is that the 2011 and newer F450's aren't really F450's anymore. They are 350's badged as a 450. The 2008-2010 F450's used a medium duty style rear axle and 19.5" rims/tires. For 2011 Ford went back to using the normal F350 axle and 17" rims/tires for the consumer version of the F450. If you buy a cab and chassis F450, it still uses the bigger medium duty parts. Apparently, people wanted the F450 badge, but they didn't want the big truck feel of a real medium duty truck.

I have put about 750 towing miles on the Ford pulling my 40' enclosed car trailer and I couldn't be any happier with the way it pulls. The only downside, is the terrible mileage. It averages about 8.5 MPG towing the trailer while my older 2003 Dodge 2500 diesel got about 10.9 towing the same trailer.

I can see myself trading up for the Ram in a few years when I can get a good deal on a used one.

    13-14 rams are monsters
