    Default Good radar detector <$100?

Been so long since I've had a radar detector but I have really been thinking of getting one. Don't know what's good or bad...there are a lot of 4-star detectors on amazon for under $100 but just as many or more that are $300-500 with the same rating. Any recommendations for a detector on a budget?

Get a valentine one. Not $100 but worth the price. I've had one for 10 years and it's paid itself off by saving me multiple times. You don't want a junk detector that will fail

Valentine or Escort 9500 or maybe the new Escort Max. I have the 9500 and love it. It never goes off around town after I stored all the false threats. Borrowed a friends V1 for a week or so and while the arrows are awesome, its annoying as hell going off every couple minutes.

Did you set it up for all signals or logic mode ? Mine filters out all the false alarms like retail stores and traffic signs.

    And the arrows rule

It was on Advanced Logic, the big L, still went off all the time. All the new cars with their lane departure shit made it worse too (not that the 9500 doesn't suffer from that either). I ended up turning off X band which helped tons, but still not as quiet as the 9500. Plus I use the gps speed display on the 9500 since my speedometer is off a few mph.

If the people at Valentine would just use damn gps in their unit I would have one already. It would be the perfect detector.

I just picked up a Escort MAX the best of both worlds give you the maximum range of their Red Line edition with the built in GPS of the 9500ix. I've tried the Valentine, it's a great detector ( I loved the arrows ) but I couldn't deal with all the false signals, it got to the point were I wasn't paying attention to it any more. Do a little research, your not going to find a quality detector for $100. In theory it's a oxymoron trying to find quality detector for a cheap price. Like jumbo shrimp.

This looks pretty bad ass. I wonder how good it is?

I ended up getting this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004RO3QOM/...332200_TE_item

I just was looking for something that could give me a little more than what I had now, which is nothing. I set a hard budget for myself of $100...that way, I'm not out much money, and I'm a little more protected than I was before. The reviews were pretty good for this, and it seemed to hit everything I was looking for. I know it's no Valentine One (I've had one of those in the past...it was great!)...just don't have the money to spend on one right now...can't justify the $500 cost.

I should note that I generally drive about 9-10 over the speed limit, so the chances of me being pulled over aren't that high to begin with. However, sometimes I lose track or slowly creep up, and it'd be good to have something that might help me in those situations. I'm not the type of person that drives 120 everywhere, and I'm not going to rely solely on this to avoid tickets. Thanks for the suggestions!
