Default What kind of trouble can my neighbor be in?

He bought a natural gas powered generator to power his house when the electricity goes out. It was installed with no permit, and not anyone from Consumers Energy was on site anywhere at any time during installation. Not even sure if the installer was licensed. Can he get in trouble for that?

The real question is, why is this such an issue for you?
Why are you so concerned about this? Is there more to
    this story?

The reality is if he was backfeeding power to the powerlines the generator would be brought to it's knees unless it's big enough to run a small city. Even if the guy is an idiot he would quickly pick up on the fact that he was feeding the neighbors with power.

Technically you need a permit for just about everything in your home, even to change a simple outlet. I bet only a small percentage of permits are actually pulled. If you wanted to cause trouble you could probably get the city to fine them $500 or something but that would make you a pretty craptastic neighbor.
