Question Any one use H&R Block?

I was thinking of changing the company that does my taxes and thought about H&R block....They say "Nobody gets you more money back than Block. We guarantee your maximum refund"
How can they guarantee that? Don't all Tax prep companies use the same formulas when doing our taxes?

My mom has worked there for 35 years. Ill ask her..

You gotta think they are the biggest collector of taxes for the irs. Maybe they give them a littlw cut back for being the middleman and they share it with the customers.

Tax returns are prepared following the same tax code no matter who prepares them. Some difference in tax liabilities can be gained by taking different positions (Ie Sec 179 vs Standard Depreciation),but for most, any competent preparer should come out with the same overall tax liability on a non complex return.

"Nobody gets you more money back than Block. We guarantee your maximum refund" = We won't make a mistake on your tax return, if we do we will fix it. It's just marketing, but it seems to work pretty good!

Also depends on how many tricks they can file for you.
More experience gives you more knowledge on what will pass and what will not.

I used H&R Block for years until I discovered Precision Tax from here. Same results for less than 30% of the price.

I don't want to do my taxes... Tried that one year and it wasn't good.. I should have 2 or 3 companies do my taxes and see if they all come out the same or file the one that gets me more money back.

I just learned this myself not too long ago, and even though my taxes are much more complicated than this, I was able to ballpark figure out some of my friend's taxes who do not have any income other than their employment:

Example of a $48,000/yr gross income

    -6200 standard deduction

    -3950 personal exemption

    =$37850 Taxable income

    2014 tax brackets:
    Up to 9075 = 10%
    Between 9075-36,900 = 15%
    Between 36,900-89,350 = 25%

For this example, this income falls in the 25% tax bracket.

Breakdown of what you would owe:
    10% tax bracket = $907.50
    15% tax bracket = $4173.75
    25% tax bracket = $237.50
    Your tax burden = 907.50+4173.74+237.50 = $5318.75

Subtract the Federal Witholding number on W2 from this tax burden. If the result is a negative number, you get a refund. If it a positive number, you owe taxes.

That's the basics of Federal Income tax. It is not nearly as hard as people think it is. This does not take into account any tax credits or deductions though.
