Default Help picking out a car stereo system

I am putting a system in a car and don't know too much about stereo's

There will be 2 3" dash speakers
2 4x6 speakers in the kick panels
2 6x9 speakers in the package tray
    1 powered subwoofer in trunk

I was going to run the 4x6's and 6x9's off the amp and the dash speakers off the head unit.

Anyone recommend speakers and an amp?

Should I use crossovers for certain speakers?

    Thanks!

I'd do a 4 channel amp for the dash and kicks, then another 4 channel for the 6x9's and sub. You can run 2 of the 4 bridged to the sub, so basically 3 channel.
Most newer amps have crossovers built in. And all of the speakers should be crossed over so they're not trying to play freq's out of their range.

Sounds like you pretty much have the worst of all worlds. Oval speakers suck. Does anyone sit in your back seat? If not, scratch the rears, grab a good 5ch amp and save yourself the trouble of distribution and ground blocks. Get the best 3.5s you can, cut the doors for 6.5s, and run a good component set. Do yourself a favor and get a good sub and have the correct box built for it. The old Infinity Kappa Perfect 12s have always been a favorite. They have a silly high sensitivity so they get loud quick and don't need a lot of space.

FTFY While home audio and car audio are very similar, they are also very different. My brother is great with car audio though.

Car audio sucks because you can't control the environment and 30% of your 'walls' are glass. I have thousands of dollars in my car stereo and my home made 2-way speakers with 7" woofers running off a 20yo receiver blows it away.

Yep, the car is a very difficult environment to work in. I've heard some car systems that sounded good for a car system, but even a home system on a modest budget will be far better.
