UAW contract negotiations

From what I understood it is a 8 year plan depending on seniority. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that is the system the Canadian auto workers have or close to it.

What makes no sense to me, is an 8 year plan of pay raises....in a 4 year contract?
