Tough decision, I always look at replacement cost for engines and transmissions as a decision maker also, some ford parts are hard to find compared to the chevy stuff. On a side note I always wanted a lifted 7.3 excursion with the newer front end conversion.
Ls has to be a cheaper swap than the 5.4
4l80? I don't know.
I know I won't want to do either!
4L80 is supposed to pretty good. Way better than 4L60e. I probably wouldn't worry about 200k on the 6.0. As for the 5.4, I have the 5.4 3V in my 2007 Expedition and have 187,000 miles. Coil packs are slowly dying one by one. Really annoying but I don't wanna spend $400 on all 8 of them at once. And you may know this but Ford's also rust on the rockers behind the door and you don't see that in pictures with the doors closed so that Ford could have rusty rockers.
My vote would be for the Chevy and I'm also a Ford guy. I just really don't care for a lot of the Ford trucks from the mid 2000's and actually prefer the GM even though a lot of them are rotted out garbage.
I didn't realize the Ford was rusted. I'd pick the GM then. The 6.0 will definitely run for a long time, I know of a couple of them at 300k and still strong.
The 5.4 will also, since it doesn't have the cam phasers....I just went through that with a 5.4 expedition.
87 Grand National (grudge car)
Misc old Ford street cars
He says the rust isn't visable
The covers don't look bad.
I realize it's not a show vehicle, I just need a somewhat nice truck to daily drive
The f250 is a total pile
Went last night to look at it
Would making a salvage title into a rebuilt title be something you'd consider? It's not difficult depending the damage(s) to repair one back into shape followed up by having it inspected. Resale is the main downfall if that matters to you.
Got zero ambition to go through that.
I'll attempt a bed swap, but no desire to do too much
I think I just saw this one show up for sale.
2000 F250, V10, Crew Cab, Short Bed, 150k miles, automatic. Has some rust on doors and over rear wheel wells. Has exhaust leak, but it's been the same for many years. Very reliable truck and was well maintained. No trades unless they are totally one sided in my favor. Stupid questions will be cheerfully ignored. Thank you.
I know the pics are lame, here's a walk around video:
