Yep, makes for very close racing and much more fun. On Saturday the pairings are lined up in the staging lanes from slowest in the front to quickest at the rear. You have the same opponent for 3 rounds of heads up racing, and you can't run quicker than 3/10's of your qualifying time or you are disqualified. After the shootout, all the winners are entered in a "king of the hill" bracket race to determine the overall winner of the event.

Here is last year's race in Hemming's Muscle Machines.

We had spectacular weather and a good turnout for the race. It was good meeting you, Sledder!

I believe the car count was 114, but 2 cars were disqualified for going too fast for the safety rules.

I was paired up for the 3 round shootout with a beautiful Buick GSX. I had qualified with a best run of 13.58 on Friday, and the Buick ran 13.52.

I won the first round with a new personal best of 13.39. The second round was very close with the Buick having the better reaction time. I was catching up near the stripe but ran out of track, and I lost by .03 seconds. Third round I spun bad and got flat outrun as the big GSX ran it's best pass of the weekend at 13.51 to my 13.86.

The old AMX did pretty well, but the driver could sure use some practice slipping the clutch more consistently during the launch lol...

A few of the guys from the AMC club came to watch, and we had our own little car show in the pits. Here are a few misc pics of our group, and a few from the staging lanes. I wish I would have taken more pictures, so many cool cars!

Good talking to you Joe. The AMX was not only "show ready" it ran very well. Those are some very good numbers. I would highly recommend this event to anyone interested in vintage muscle cars. It's a car show in the pits with drag racing. One lesson learned from this event was if you are going to pick on an old Studebaker you better know what you're doing. There were a number of 13 second Studebakers there.

I Drag Race Because It's Fun, Not Because I'm Good At It.

Love the Gold 67 220 post I had one just like it bought it from the original owner in North Carolina for 1000 bucks and drove it home 6cyl. 3 on the tree with factory overdrive under the dash.

Denny- no NMCA for me, a little AMC motor has nuthin' for those F.A.S.T. guys! They do run a "Factory Stock" class at some of their races (Pure Stock rules) and I'm going to try to make it to US131 next time they go.

Thanks Golden! Did you make it to the race? If so, sorry I didn't get to meet you. Come on by and help yourself to the cooler next time.

I was not there, just looking at the car and times posted in this thread. Looks like a great event.

The Studebaker guys have been going to that event since it started. They gear up for that event every year.
