Yeah screw that... the VIN should be in the Craigslist ad that helps everybody find insurance pricing and do a Carfax on it...

Had somebody do that to me too. I figure if they're not willing to send the VIN, then they are not serious about selling the car or they are trying to hide something.

If you're looking for a 4Runner... I'd definitely look for one with the TRD package which comes with the factory rear locker. If you watched that video I posted earlier, it's obvious what a huge difference it makes. With open diffs, that guy would have just been spinning and spitting rocks and not going anywhere starting right from that first bump/hole. Engage the locker you'll climb right up, slow and steady in most cases.

Atrac is pretty badass. Beside, I thought there were no more E lockers after '99? I guess you'd have to call up ARB if you wanted to get really serious, but I don't think most people have any idea how these things flex without any mods.

Anyhow, I used to think the trucks were really overpriced (the one on the last page is pretty high), but when you compare them to a jeep of the same vintage...well, you can't compare them. I look at every Jeep now and wonder why people would pay so much. Then again, the 4runner is a Japan-built truck that now shares a chassis with the Land Cruiser Prado.....so I am aware it isn't some 'North America only' vehicle like the Tacoma is. While I think Tacomas are fucking awesome, it isn't a Hilux. They are built to last, no doubt.

My H3 is up for grabs with new Goodyear Duratrac snow tires on it.. It's exactly what I would want up there for crappie weather days but its not exactly fun on nice days... thats what motorcycles and convertibles are for.

I just wanted to elaborate a little on the Atrac system. It uses the traction control system to simulate f/r lockers. When a wheel is spinning, the brakes lock it up to spin the wheel with traction.

ATRAC is nice, but it's not quite a locker. I realize that for 90% of users, it's enough, but if you really need it, you want a real locker.

As far as years with the e-locker... I think it stopped in 2000

Lol I'm not going offroading in the thing so an elocker is not critical. They would have an LSD or something from the factory, right? I'm pretty adamant about having a manual transmission if I were to go the 4runner path. How does it ride? Is the interior quality higher? Comfortable on long trips?

While a great truck in many ways and certainly a well-kept example, an H3 is not quite the vehicle I'm looking for.

Starting to think a German wagon and good extended service plan may be in my future.
