Default Industry standards for recording vehicle service information?

Is there a standard coding convention that’s widely used for mechanics/service writers to record service information?

We’re implementing a fleet management module within our software at work, and we will be looking to track vehicle/large equipment maintenance history, part failures, service schedules, etc. and trying to determine how we should categorize and word things so that it makes sense for our mechanics and they can/will reliably enter good information in the system. I was given the impression that this was somewhat standardized in the industry. If so, does anyone know where I can find this information to use in setting up our system?

I think Mitchell may have what you’re looking for.

It's not standardized. Everyone has their own method; it sucks.
