Thread: Calling electrical guru's

    Default Calling electrical guru's

I have a 12v intercooler pump on my build that draws 9 amps.

I added a step-up converter just before the pump. The step-up bumps the voltage to 17v.

If I run the pump without the step-up, all is OK. Once the step-up is placed inline I get a bunch of rfi through my radio.

How do I eliminate the rfi? Though of adding a 10 amp noise filter.

    Here are the step-up specs:
The unit runs at 150 KHz

Try adding 1 or 2 ferrite beads to the line after the step-up converter. Also, make sure your grounds are good! Ive had good results with the ferrite beads on my HID ballast. Straight up static when the headlights were on before, crystal clear after adding them.

You can also try wrapping any exposed antenna grounds with copper tape.

But most definitely check and clean grounds. Just because it has low resistance doesn't mean it's a good ground. It needs to be able to carry the current.

So.... I purchased two of these step-up units. One as a spare. Tried the spare, no rfi. Go figure...

    Thanks for the replies guys!
