Just a thought. If the VW job pays better, but more expensive health care. Would you be able to get additional money/compensation from them if you decline insurance and shop for a policy yourself? The additional money you are making, plus possibly some more additional if they offer it for declining insurance........ that could get you to a break even point I would imagine? I've done it before at a shop I worked at years ago.
