This car is part of a probate. Can someone anyone tell me what I should expect if purchasing the car?
I sold a car in probate last year. I sold it to a dealer. The dealer took copies of the "Letter of Authority" which is what allows someone to sign for the deceased, and I also gave him a copy of the death certificate. Probably the letter of authority would be all you needed in case the transfer was ever challenged. It probably wouldnt hurt to at least loo kat the death certificate just to make sure it is legit. The probate letter will have a press in seal and date too.

The owner said if I am interested I can leave a deposit with the attorney handling the probate and once the judge approves and signs the transfer we can meet at the attorney's office and sign the title over. Does that sound legit?
I would still check the letter of authority. Something legal to prove his authority to sign off the title.

You can always contact / check with the probate court to verify.
These days it is so easy to have a problem with such a purchase,
it is also very easy to avoid problems with just a little effort too!
I bought a car from a probate proceeding, but that was a little
different. The car I bought was my Aunt's and I knew the Attorney's
involved and I was a part of the probate proceedings.
