    Default G8 gt dod

I think I may have the dreaded DOD noise, it doesn't sound like a lifter more like a softer clicking coming from the back of the left head. That being said, how bad of a job is the dod delete? I read you need to pull the heads. Or is there a sponsor on the boards that can do the job.

You do need to remove the heads to get to the lifters.

It is a bit of a job. I just did this for my brothers G8 last year. Full top end comes off. Intake, heads, manifolds ect. BTR racing sells a kit usually that has what you need lifters, valley cover, head gaskets, ect.
If youre doing it, its a great time to do 3 bolt cam swap while youre at it. Id treat it more just like a cam swap deal. Do pushrods, timing chain, trunion upgrade, new head bolts/studs.
Youre most likely going to be in around $1800-$2000 i think in just labor(im ball parking as i dont recall what my brother was quoted before i did it for him). I had gotten quotes just dont remember.

If the camshaft is ok, it saves some work & cost if all you're after is stock power.

Otherwise, if the camshaft needs to be replaced, I recommend picking up a long block reusing your bolt-ons to drop in... or short block & your heads+..

So yeah, I pulled it in and listened to it a little closer, Im pretty sure its a collapsed lifter DOD thing..... Im thinking/hope the cam is okay since it just started.

The camshaft should be fine, but its a good time to upgrade seeing your in there. I personally would just fix what you have. Im not sure id go the longblock idea as above, you might just end up in the same situation youre in now.
Parts arent super expensive, its just labor intensive.

I've done cam swaps & had heads off cars -BUT-I have zero LS experience, mostly old Pontiac 400/350 engines. This is all new to me.

If you're doing the cam, you minds well pull the motor & work on it. Long or short block, I would go with a rebuilt/reman/new. Had no intent to mean junkyard engine.

Just doing the lifters, the heads come off, but doable with it still mounted in the car.

Yea i knew what you meant. It can be done with it all in the car still though. I did the full DOD delete/cam swap with it all in the car. Ive done numerous LS swaps/cam deals yadda yadda.. It all in the car isnt bad with the correct tools.
