Sometimes its in the system, sometimes its not. The next owner might get a salvage title back from the SOS.

    Straight from the SOS website.

    Insurance Companies

When an insurance company acquires ownership of an older-model vehicle, a salvage or scrap title is not required. The insurance company simply receives the title from the insured and reassigns the title upon resale of the vehicle.

    Individuals

Older-model distressed vehicles are titled as salvage vehicles only on a voluntary basis. Vehicle owners are discouraged from applying for a salvage title on an older-model vehicle because it is not necessary. It is also expensive and often difficult to obtain a vehicle recertification in order to purchase a plate.

Like I said its the age of the truck

Interesting, thanks for the input so far.

I do still have the green title, but CarFax shows this:

Nothing you can do about that since it is technically true, however its not a branded title so from here its just going to be some salesmanship when you sell it. You'll have to channel your inner used car dealer spirit.

I have a guy who wants to buy it, knowing all of this, at a reasonable price to both of us... he’s just worried that he gets to SOS and they tell him he cannot get a title

Do you still have it or did you sell it? If you sold it... any issues?

So you do have the original, clean, clear title, as I thought.

One of two things I would do.

    1) See if I can get a "pre-title-transfer" check on my title's possible branding.

    2) Meet the buyer at the SOS and order a instant title on the spot, it
costs like an extra $5. You'll now have new buyers title in hand.

I would write up a receipt that states you do NOT guarantee or warrant
the title being, free and clear, non-salvage or scrap or branded in anyway.

If they'll sign that, you got the right buyer. And of course as always, cash only.

Go pay the money for a duplicate/lost title and see what it comes back with.
