Default Getting a car with no VIN road legal?

Does anyone have experience getting a non-road legal car that is produced without a VIN road legal?

Given the volume of oddball shit that cruises Woodward, I would think MI has some way to make this happen.

I think you just apply for a VIN, and then the "vehicle" has to be inspected by State police.
I think, my dad is building a rod, we got the body as just a tub, put it on a Ford T frame.
Still not done, but eventually would have to do this as well.
I remember him talking about it before, but its been a few years.

I put together a 31 Ford in the 70's and got an Assembled Title. It wasn't very hard at that time, I had to have the police come out and inspect it to make sure it was roadworthy. They hand stamped the new VIN into the door jamb. Now you have to show a paperwork trail of everything you bought to assure nothing is stolen.

Speaking of stolen, my car was stolen and I still have the assembled title....

    Just my .02.....grr
