The Chinese Ripoff Classic Corvette Design....
    .....and ruin it!

Chinese automakers have a knack for ‘borrowing’ designs from major companies, but they’re usually taken from newer vehicles.

That isn’t the case with Songsan Motors’ SS Dolphin, which is a clone of the 1958 Corvette C1. The company doesn’t even try to hid this as their website shows celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and George Clooney behind the wheel of the classic American sports car.

Given that the SS Dolphin is a modern-day knockoff, it features four circular LED headlights and a Corvette-inspired chrome grille. The model also has a chrome framed windshield and bodywork that is vaguely reminiscent of the C1.

The rear end is almost an exact copy as the biggest difference is an SS Dolphin badge instead of a Corvette logo. Speaking of the back, the car’s hardtop can be placed in the trunk for spur of the moment open air enjoyment.

In terms of size, the model measures 189 inches (4,800 mm) long, 72.8 inches (1,850 mm) wide and 54.7 inches (1,390 mm) tall. That makes it 11.8 inches (300 mm) longer and 3.7 inches (94 mm) taller than the original.

While exterior screams classic Corvette, the cabin blends old school styling with modern technology. Details are limited, but we can see a digital instrument cluster and a ‘floating’ infotainment system. Other highlights include wood trim, metallic accents and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

The company was coy on specifications, but their website says the SS Dolphin is a plug-in hybrid that features a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and an electric motor. Autohome reports the powertrain is sourced from BYD and the 16 kWh battery pack enables the car to travel 56-62 miles (90-100 km) on electricity alone. The model can also accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds.

Pricing starts at ¥590,000 ($86,613 / £67,435 / €74,246) which makes it nearly 50% more expensive than a brand new Camaro in China.

I remember an old saying about “those that can’t do teach”. I think that is very fitting right here if you exchange a couple of words, those that can’t design steal someone else’s design!!!

There are many stories on Chinese copy cars, even some have going to trial and had to stop being produced.
Funny they continue to do it, although that seems par for the course.

China doesn't recognize the concept of intellectual property. This is only 1 of a million examples.
