If he can afford to buy the track but not have the means to get it in shape to be a working track then it is doomed for failure.
A business would need capital to make it work (Grounds Maintenance, taxes, payroll, etc..).

How can you buy a track with no means to make it work? I call BS

Maybe he just wants some quick help…or lots of help, and again no one knows whats the benefit of volunteering, I guess maybe just doing a good deed works for some, but others have to be paid lol

Cool nothing wrong with volunteering, but to make it work long term a business cannot rely on volunteering.
If that is what people want to do then sweet!
Maybe if I lived close to the track I would feel differently and want to help the rich guy out that I don't even know.

I don't know, if the guy just bought the track I'm pretty sure a full time crew hasn't been put together yet. If this is true, and there was a chance of having a few weekends of track time, let the volunteers do whatever they can do. I myself would sign up but my wife is having full replacement knee surgery on the 24th and I will be with her to help with her recovery.

I believe in volunteering, I have volunteered at several organizations over
the years. The only thing I find odd is volunteering for a for-profit company.

Every organization I volunteered for was a non-profit. I could see volunteering
for a for-profit company if there was some kind of disaster. I guess helping to
preserve a company (Milan Dragway) could also be worthwhile, by proof of
folks already lining up to volunteer.

I agree. I like to think that he is just trying to build a sense of community. Also, being as the place was in bankruptcy, there may not be a lot of profit in the business, it may be more of an expensive hobby. That guy in Lapeer has literally spent millions - doubt he will break even for years, if ever.
