Sweden is also twice as large as Michigan, which by default means the population density is 50% less. So, the travel spread factor is probably significantly less there as our largest cities are only an hour or two apart. They also have universal health care and significantly less poverty... so they probably don't have the same situations, with lots of people crammed into smaller homes like in Detroit Hard to compare with vastly different cultures. The facts though, show that with directly comparable neighbors who DID lock down... like Finland, Iceland, Norway... they did significantly worse

Personally, I think the real reason this country has failed... is absolutely President Trump. He had a chance to lead and he chose to play politics instead. He was afraid to look weak leading up to the election and was worried about what ANY lock down would do to the economy and stock market, which are his calling cards. So, he absolutely ignored the science on how diferent, contagious and deadly this particular strain is.... and decided to roll the dice. And, the way he works, is he won't ever admit that he was wrong, so he just kept doubling down, rather than listen to science. Now, while I say that, I don't doubt that some of the Democratic governors (including our own) chose to take the bait and play politics game right back at him. Both sides turned it into being about their personal political careers rather than the health of their constituents.

He ignored science? Fauci said don't worry about Covid-19 at the beginning of 2020 right around the time Trump blocked travel from China. Then Fauci said we didn't need to wear masks but today he wears two at a time. Fauci was the guy talking to Trump, and by all appearances he was making it up as he went. Fauci also said Trump never went against his advice. Trump has no authority to declare a national lockdown. He did what he should have - he got the US pumping out ventilators and PPE, and fast-tracked vaccines. The only one playing politics is Whitmer and the rest of the dems (how about Cuomo faking the data because politics). There is zero science that any of her lockdowns had any effect on cases and deaths, and her lack of a lockdown with the current spikes in cases and deaths just shows you how little her orders ever mattered.

The real success, in ANY of this... is cooperation and moderation. Instead of saying "No masks, no lockdowns, I want everything open by Easter!" or the Dems saying "Lock everything down!" The real answer is right down the middle. We don't HAVE to lock down, but that's only if EVERYBODY does their part. We leave things open, but you people need to be responsible, wear masks WHENEVER you are outside of your home, stop the gatherings and parties, stop denying science. Work together and we can all win. Instead, we chose to fight and we all lost. And the reason for that is that a large majority of Republicans (and I say this as a never voted Democrat in my life person) are so brainwashed by Trumpism and Q-Anon that they have lost all common sense.

Who chose to fight again? It wasn't Trump, it was the democrats. Pelosi standing down in Chinatown in February encouraging people to come out? That was democrats weaponizing the virus to beat Trump. Remember - they don't care about you, they only care about power and winning. If Whitmer had to put 1000 small businesses into bankruptcy to do it, then that is what she would do (and she did).

I agree with your stuff about working together, but it seems like your two posts are mostly works of fiction.

Why are people bringing Trump into the picture once again? You Trump haters got your wish and he is long gone. He suggested reliefs and whatever he suggested was totally banned and it cost people their lives. Even the descriptive words he said to describe the virus were banned. He was called RACIST when he banned flights from China to protect the US.

The Michigan and New York governors set their own agenda without following any long term science and their policies killed many people. While it may have been a good idea to try locking everything down at first and maybe even for three months, but the long term lock downs and putting Covid positive people in nursing homes was clearly not a great idea. Even after the 'science' showed that that part was a bad idea, they continued to kill people by doing that.

The Trump Haters new favorite president is allowing diseased, unvaccinated and unvetted people to come freely into our country and is even bussing them across the country so they can infect entire groups of new people.

So, don't blame the virus solely on Trump. There is plenty of blame to go around and our new president is making it worse....

Here is a great article about how Ontario had recently ordered a new lockdown, and given police the right to issue tickets and ask you why you weren't at home? It lasted about two days before they had to remove it in Canada because of backlash. But Mike is saying this is the kind of thing Trump should have done.

And I am not even going into how 30% of the US is vaccinated thanks to Trump, while in Canada they are rewriting the science and making old people wait 4 months between shots. Because they don;t have enough. Trump wins again.
