You guys are great photographers, for real...like I'm really jealous of you guys...

I'm just starting to think about photography a little more seriously, and I was looking into getting a nice camera...what would you guys recommend? i'm not looking to spend much more than about $650 on one...any suggestions?

Can't wait to see what else you guys got comin' for us!
I picked my D50 up for $250, if you can find a D80 get it.

Alright...good stuff. I've been looking around online a lot and I'm kinda getting into the whole long exposure type of shots, so I'm definitely looking for something that has at least a 30 sec shutter speed, w/ the bulb setting so I can use the remote with it...where would you say is my best bet to try and pick one of these up in the area for the most reasonable prices?

I got mine off a friend, I haven't looked around honestly. I like my D50 because I can use new or old lenses, its still better than the D40 that is out now, and the price was right lol.

For long exposure you need a tri pod.

I started with the D40 and bought some good lenes. I just upgraded to the
D90. You can do a lot with a entry level camera and some good lenes.

Not sure why, but I picked up a tripod about a year and a half ago and I tried messing around with it recently, but my current point and shoot has a max shutter speed of 4 seconds...so it's kind of useless.

    Thanks for the advice!

Even at 4 seconds, there is no way your going to be perfectly still.

I can count on one hand the number of shots I've taken that needed a shutter speed anywhere near 4 seconds. For action photography that never happens.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

I have a tripod, so the way i'm doing it right now since I can't use a remote is that I set the self-timer to like 2 seconds on the tripod, so I can move away and it can settle itself down.

Well, I know that I won't need shutter speed that quick for action shots, but like I said above, i'm looking into long exposure shots over streets, lakes, etc etc. So knowing the camera CAN do that is a mega bonus...and mdhmi, is that your dog?
