A tripod is one of your best investments. A good one also. When shooting landscape or still images. It is always best to take your shot with a slower shutter. Color saturation will be better and you end up with a shaper image.
Very shallow
3,4,6,7 from what I posted are all shot with that wide open. It's a great lens, so sharp @ 2.8
I've taken a shot of my lens cap with only the word "Nikon" in focus, everything else blurred, so depends on what your shooting, it can be extremely shallow.
If I really want a shallow DOF though I usually bust out the 50mm f/1.8, but the longer focal length of the 80-200 really separates the subject from the background too.
