I run a detroit locker but now everyone including DTS is telling me I would have been fine with a spool on the street and woud have spent a whole lot less money

Lots of factors... HP, Weight, trans, but for a 450-500hp street car a true trac is what I would use. Lockers are too aggressive for my taste for a DD.
If its strickly a drag race car or very limited street use a spool with larger dia axles would be better.

what about a 5 speed car that makes like 750 and is driven 95% street 5% track? I have an auburn pro now that I broke the eaton, but I don't really know if that is what I want in the car. I keep thinking about atleast putting the 9in ends on and then either getting a spool or a trutrac. What do you think?

Carl, I cannot imagine the tubes on your rear axle being strait anymore.
With your hp you need several mods to the rear axle housing, tubes nickle welded to the center/support bars/9"ends w timken brgs/billet cap or TA cover. Im unsure how many ft lbs of torque the true trac can handle, or if they offer it w 33s,( i need to call and ask) but Im sure your near or beyond it limits. It boils down to how good your traction is and whether your launching @ peak torque or a lower rpm ( i assume you launch lower to keep it from spinning) The locker clunks too much for a stick car for comfortable driving. Truetrac deliver excellent torque distribution and driver comfort.

I have already had DTS weld the tubes to the center sections, and have a dts cover on the rearend. The trutrac only comes in a 31 spline setup. I really don't take it to the track and when I do I launch it at 4200-5000rpm of the two step, but I break shit when i do this. I really don't want to have to add a spool since I drive it on the streets so much.

What about this auburn pro unit that is a 33 spline unit? http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...duct-1215.html
