Yes it is.
I have worked at Ford. I worked next to UAW and non UAW people. The standard of work wasnt any differant and we all cared about our job.
You REFUSE to work for them ? LOL. How noble and short sighted of you. If they offered you 28/hr you would JUMP to make that.
So all of your friends and family members that work for the UAW make too much money and dont care about the job they are doing?
Im trying to point out that your statement was not a well thought out argument.

It's all good. Do I think that UAW pay is high? Yes I do. But as far as the pay cut thing goes, at this point, I think that it's all mute. If something doesn't give from all sides, there will be no jobs here and the UAW wage will be zero. So I guess in the long run, the UAW wage will be going lower, like it or not.

Well, obviously nothing I say will be good enough for you.
My friends and family both admit that they and their co workers do not work a full shift. They will sit there until they actually need to do something. Sorry, They need to make more money because they work to much.
Since you know about me and my finances. How much am I making? Why would I jump for a job with a troubled company let alone industry? Is there job security? Must be since you praise them so much. I mean, them moving their operations to places where people work for less is just so promising for me. But, again you know all so. I cant disagree because you can live my life better than I can.

Toyota worker makes more than me, but nobody talks about that because they aren't UAW.

I have a problem with that just as I do any manufacturing job that makes more money than a Teacher/Nurse/Cop/etc/etc. When I worked for Pepsi I made more an hour than my wife did as a RN. She helped to save lives, I made sugar water. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Hell I even took a pay cut for Ford. Ford is pay a certain percent less to each dealer, which means I take a pay cut. It's not huge, but it's something.
Does it suck? Yes, but I'd rather have a product to sell and a customer(Ford employee) to sell it to.
DBK you need to bend someones ( ) ear about leasing the damn F-150's again.

Well patman is onto something when he says it's a moot point. With half the workers of just a few years ago, the Big 3 are still suffering so it's certainly not how much a line worker makes being the issue.
But the fact of the matter is.....if they'd offer me or anybody that needed a decent job a job with the potential of this kind of pay I'd be all over it. Anybody with a brain would take that job, especially in this economy.

Im sorry. Sometimes i come off a little to aggressive and abrasive. I didnt mean to start a war, i just meant to point out how ill informed and ignorant your statement seemed to me.
At 24 i thought i knew a lot as well. Im sure you have lived a full life that i dont know about, but your statement is coming from facts that you learned second or third hand at best.

I think thats bullshit as well. Ive worked at a ford dealer and we always felt like we were the ones in the trenches. They shouldnt have cut your pay. How are you going to send trunk jr and/or kimkim jr to med school if they keep cutting your pay ?

I'm fine with it, if it's for the greater good. There will be no Trunk Jr's unless my past comes back to haunt me. The world can't handle my offspring.

I type the same thing in every single union thread that I participate in.
I am not "jealous" of UAW wages and I don't care how much they make. I hope they make a lot, I want everyone to be successful.
What I *do* think is that the market should dictate those wages, not some fucked up strong arm agreement. Everyone else in this country outside of the UAW has to compete for their wages. Doesn't common sense tell you that it won't work any other way? Isn't it obvious that it's too expensive?
The UAW rank and file have proven that they're nothing but short sighted money grabbers with an "entitlement" attitude that the rest of the country does not have the luxury of having. They proved this with the way they voted on the Ford concessions. It kills me that they can be so stupid as to keep biting the feeding hand. Pretty soon these guys are going to learn about what it's like in the real world, where you have to actually perform and compete to make money.
