    Default Project Midnight

figured I would start a build thread on my F100

    as I tear into it

midnight1.jpgmidnight3.jpgmidnight13.jpg Im finally moving forward !!! going Gas Monkey garage on it

drove to Norwalk ohio and scored a 04 Towncar front suspension essentially the same as a crown vic only it has cast aluminum lower control arms as opposed to vic's cast iron

    also have a new engine and trans combo scored a 1971 400 and a C6 trans 71 & 72 400's were rated at 265 H/P with over 400 ft. lbs of torque
and are 9 to 1 compression
by the time I install a RV cam and a 4 barrel intake it should be over 300 hp and close to 500 ft lbs torque

but I'm undecided on the rear help me choose

    I have a 3.73 31 spline posi 8.8 out of a explorer
and a 3.08 open IRS from a Thunderbird
    both have disc brakes

cant decide if I want it to handle like a new mustang or be able to out run one

Go with the IRS. And, 3.08 gears, 9:1 comp = perfect for some boost! Make it leave soft and maybe the rear end will survive.

And I LOVE the slotted mags BTW. May the 70's never die!!
I used to be 'with it'. Then they changed what 'it' was. Now what I'm 'with' isn't 'it', and what's 'it' seems weird and scary to me.......

Yeah.. It's not going to do anything like a new mustang unless you shove 8psi into that chunk of iron.

Any audio mods? Exhaust? Modern stereo?

    Goodluck! I dig it!

The "hot rod black" looks great. Good luck with the project!

Look around on the net for conversion info/ pics. It's a pretty popular swap.

I have some tbird super coupe irs shafts if you go that route.as well as irs knuckles. I built a tbird based irs setup for my 53 Ford. Keep in mind the irs does not have a 5x4.5" bolt circle. You have to redrill or replace the hub bearings with cobra irs parts. I redrilled. With 500 ft#, im not sure how long the axles will last, and the tbird irs is a 28 spline 8.8.

In short, I'd go 8.8 Exploder or adapt Exploder or Expedition IRS parts.
