My own experience with my SRT-4 was that slicks did indeed remove hop. Even the best drag radials would hop but the slicks seemed to "absorb" the energy that might have overpowered the suspension. Of course it's a FWD but I think the dynamics are the same. Maybe some GTO/CTS-v guys can chime in.
As far as breakage I think that depends on the car. 05 SRT's are pretty stout. I bet that German stuff you got is up to the task!
What about more sticky rears, smaller rear's, and coilovers so that you can have a wheelie bitch at the strip and and a autoX king....
